Los Shapis are a seminal Peruvian band from Huancayo whose music helped shape and spread the chicha genre. Their debut album, “Los Auténticos” (1981), perfectly captures the style's defining traits, combining expressive electric guitar leads, Andean-influenced vocals, and lyrics about heartbreak, betrayal, and loss. Essential listening for cumbia fans and collectors of Peruvian music, “Los Auténticos” is an iconic chicha album and one of the best introductions to the genre.
